Hogan, Hodge escape AFL bans

Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan is free to play this weekend despite elbowing St Kilda's Jarryn Geary in the face in their round-17 AFL match.

Hogan lashed out at his opponent in the fourth quarter of the Demons' loss on Sunday, making a strong connection with Geary but the Saints defender told SEN radio there "wasn't a lot" in the action.

"I managed to stay on the ground, so I didn't feel too much from it," he said.

The incident was seen as careless - rather than intentional - which means Hogan will play in his native Western Australia for just the second time in his career.

Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge has been spared a week off after his tackle on Callum Sinclair was classified similarly - careless conduct with low impact to the head.

Port Adelaide forward Jay Schulz was the only other player to receive a punishment from the weekend's game, charged with tripping North Melbourne's Robbie Tarrant.

All three have been offered $1000 fines for their actions.
