Giants can still make AFL top 4: Cameron

A top-four AFL finish is still in Greater Western Sydney's sights despite their shock loss to Collingwood.

The Giants were in prime position to jump from third to second last Saturday with a strong win against the Magpies.

That golden opportunity came crashing down with their shock 32-point loss at Spotless Stadium, which left Leon Cameron's side in seventh by the round's end.

Star forward Jeremy Cameron said a review of the mostly poor performance uncovered a string of areas needing attention before the recovery started this Sunday away to lowly Brisbane.

But he felt the chastening defeat, described by coach Cameron as the "worst 60 minutes of the year", would serve to help the group sharpen its focus for the season's home run.

"Out there, we could feel things weren't really going our way and that's where we need to knuckle down and assert ourselves on the game," Jeremy Cameron said.

"Looking at the footage, there's a lot we can improve on.

"It's losses like that that really help you in the long run."

It's also failed to put a dent in the Giants' belief they could do big things this campaign.

The league's youngest expansion side are a high likelihood to make a maiden finals appearance given the top eight is all but set.

Some have even tipped them to win the flag given their favourable home run featuring just two top-eight opponents.

Cameron believed his team could yet find themselves back among the leading four pacesetters after the final seven rounds.

"It's really tight at the top end - everyone's a chance," Cameron said.

"We always set our sights really high.

"We want to be a club that finishes right up near the top and that's what we're working towards.

"Being here from the start, we're sick of finishing down the bottom."
