Former Eagles star Kerr admits to ice use

Former West Coast star Daniel Kerr has admitted using ice, blaming the drug and the consumption of alcohol on a troubled past.

Kerr, who working with indigenous communities in the Western Australian goldfields' town of Laverton, opened up about his past to Nine News as he tries to rebuild his life."I was drinking most days doing the things that come along (with that)... I don't want to go into those things," Kerr told 9NEWS, eventually admitting to taking drugs."Well yeah... Which allow you to drink longer stay out later." Kerr has admitted to his alcohol abuse and confessed to taking meth. "I have tried it and I have had a go at it and it's... a big call that, but it is the biggest risk on society and it is bigger than terrorism," he said. He's now working with Indigenous Services Australia, assisting remote communities.He's due to be sentenced next month over an incident at a Perth home where he sprayed petrol and threatened to light a fire with two people in the home. "Obviously I don't want to spend time in jail but the way my head works sometimes I need something big like that to pull my head in," Kerr said of a possible prison term. Kerr will also try to do Dry July. "I have never gone a month dry I think since I was 15 – I was 15 when I started drinking alcohol," he said.He hopes what he will be remembered as still hasn't been told. "With football you can remember me for what I did and what I didn't do but as far as life goes what people want to remember me for – I am only 32 so it is still hopefully being written," Kerr said.
