Dates and times for AFL week three finals fixture

The dates and times for the third week of the AFL finals series have been confirmed, with a grand final berth on the line for four sides.
Sydney will host Port Adelaide at the SCG on Friday night in their preliminary final before Geelong welcome Brisbane to the MCG for a Saturday evening clash.
The winners from both preliminary finals will play off for the ultimate glory in the AFL grand final on the last Saturday in September.
Tickets for the second week go on sale on Monday. Fans can get the full ticketing information from the AFL website.
Week three AFL finals
Friday, September 20 7.40pm (AEST): Sydney vs Port Adelaide, SCG
Saturday, September 21 5.15pm (AEST): Geelong vs Brisbane, MCG
The AFL grand final at the MCG will be held on September 28 at 2:30pm AEST.

When was the last time each side made a grand final?
The Swans last featured in the big dance just two years ago, when they went down to Geelong by 81 points.
Port Adelaide has not reached a grand final since 2007 when they were beaten by Geelong by 119 points.
Geelong made the grand final in 2022 and defeated Sydney.
And the Lions, well, they were in that last Saturday in September just last year.
Brisbane lost to Collingwood in 2023, by just three points.

How does the top eight work in the AFL?
The AFL has used the same structure for the finals series since 2000, with the top eight broken into two groups of four.
The winners of the two qualifying finals advance to host preliminary finals, while the losers from the elimination finals bid farewell to their season.
In the first semi, the loser of the first qualifying final will host the winner of the first elimination final fixture.
Similarly, the loser from the second qualifying final will host the winner of the second elimination final.
The preliminary finals will see the winner of the first qualifying final face the winner of the second semi-final at home.
The winner of the second qualifier will host the winner of the first semi-final in the second prelim.
The winners of both preliminary finals will battle it out on September 28 in the 2024 AFL Grand Final.
