Dustin Martin issues apology, fined by the AFL for 'obscene gesture'
Richmond star Dustin Martin has spoken for the first time since being suspended for one match after striking GWS star Adam Kennedy.
After successfully getting his initial two-match ban halved at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday, Martin was slammed with a $7500 sanction for his "obscene gesture" in the Tigers' loss to the Giants in Round 3.
$5000 of the sanction will be suspended until the end of the 2020 season.
Martin took to his Twitter account to issue an apology, tweeting for the first time since August 2018.
Martin admitted that it was a frustrating outing for him personally against the Giants. AAP
"Frustrating one on the weekend," Martin tweeted.
"I understand my reaction is not a good look for the game. I apologise for my actions."
In a statement released on Wednesday, AFL General Manager of Football Operations Steve Hocking confirmed that the league had received a written explanation and an apology from Martin.
Martin's one-match ban means that the Tigers will head to Adelaide to take on the Power minus all four of Martin, Alex Rance, Jack Riewoldt and captain Trent Cotchin.
