'Geelong man' Harley Reid says he's most excited to meet Cat-turned-Eagle Tim Kelly upon West Coast arrival

West Coast's no.1 draft pick Harley Reid has revealed the Eagles teammates he is most excited to meet, as he heads over west to begin his journey in the blue and gold.

Reid was one of the most talked about no.1 draft picks in years, with conversations beginning at the start of 2023 about where he would likely land in the draft.

The 18-year-old Victorian landed in Perth on Friday, faced with attention that the midfielder, likened to Richmond star Dustin Martin, is getting used to.

But the Geelong fan-turned-Eagles prodigy says he is most excited to meet two ex-Cats, who he was a fan of during their time in the blue and white.

"Obviously I'm a Geelong man, so I've always loved Tim Kelly and Jamaine Jones, like when they went through Geelong," Reid told media at Perth Airport on Friday.

"As soon as I landed, met some of the boys and they're just they're just so welcoming.

"It was a great time to land and a few great faces to come and see straight up."

But the boyhood Geelong fan says despite his love for the Cats, he is already feeling like part of the Eagles' team.

"Wearing the colors like as soon as I got drafted, went back to my hotel after and you look around, you're like actually wearing like an AFL top. Pretty surreal," Reid said.

"They're on the build. I spoke to a few (players) today, the training sessions they're doing (are) apparently just phenomenal and they're all feeling 110 per cent."

"I'm keen to hopefully take every resource I can get to make me as a player and as a person better and influence this team to rise and back up to the top of the ladder.

"I'd just love to be part of the turnaround."

Despite having to leave his family behind in Victoria, Reid believes he's ready to make the jump interstate.

"They're so excited for my journey and chapter that awaits and to head over here and start a new journey with my footy is super exciting," he said.

Through it all, one thing remains certain for Reid.

He is just a boy with a dream to play in the big league, taking it all in his stride.

"Not many people get to experience what I've experienced this year," Reid said.
