Suns' Sam Day suffers sickening hip injury

A sickening dislocated hip to Gold Coast big man Sam Day has marred the Suns' pre-season Q-Clash win over Brisbane.
Aaron Hall powered Rodney Eade's side to an 11.15 (81) to 1.7.6 (57) victory on Sunday at a sandy Kombumerri Park at Gold Coast .
It's unclear whether the surface was a factor in the non-contact injury suffered by Day in the first quarter.
The 24-year-old hyperextended his leg when his foot lingered in the turf as he ran for a mark.
The match was stopped as Day received treatment and pain relief before he was stretchered from the ground.
The injury is rare among AFL players but was suffered by Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton.
The Suns confirmed that Day's hip had been placed back in its socket, with scans to follow.
When the game resumed, Gold Coast showed why they are favoured to jump up the ladder in 2017.
Hall had 33 touches and nine tackles, while former Lion Pearce Hanley had 19 possessions against his old side.
Michael Barlow and Jarrod Witts also debuted in Suns colours, and David Swallow returned after missing 2016 with knee injuries.
Hall said the club's focus was on integrating the new faces.
"We've got a lot of new guys and a lot of other guys have been pushed out. It's about getting that synergy right," he said.
The 26-year-old said he feared for Day.
"It didn't look a good injury. Fingers crossed and hope (he's) alright," he said.
Sam Frost could face a suspension after sparking a third-term melee by dumping Brandon Matera face-first in a sling tackle on the boundary line.
