Cats coach excited about Big Three reveal

Chris Scott is relishing the prospect of unveiling Geelong's Big Three in their Easter Monday AFL blockbuster.

The Cats coach is urging fans to be on hand when captain Joel Selwood, Patrick Dangerfield and returned star Gary Ablett play together for the first time.

Geelong have happily stoked the excitement since the confirmation Ablett would come back after seven years at Gold Coast.

"It's an occasion that I imagine (Geelong fans) wouldn't want to miss being there live to see Ablett, Selwood and Dangerfield play for the first time," Scott said.

"There is some excitement that is generated by these historic moments.

"We should seize the moment because there's no guarantee that it's going to last for a long time, those guys are in the back end of their careers."

There's every chance the opening bounce against arch-rivals Hawthorn on Monday will feature one of the most formidable midfield trios ever.

"It's an option. I can't come up with a really compelling reason not to do it at times during the game," Scott said.

"We still think those three guys are midfielders first. It's a pretty good reason to have them there.

"There'd be a fair chance they'll be in the forward half for stages as well."

Selwood and Ablett had 39 disposals apiece in their nail-biting round-one win over Melbourne, while Dangerfield returns from his hamstring injury.

Hawthorn's Tom Mitchell is also the focus of attention after his 54 disposals last week against Collingwood - an AFL record.

Scott is unsure whether he will put a hard tag on Mitchell.

"It depends - we'll go in with a plan, clearly, but I'm sure Alastair (Clarkson) would have the same question put to him (about Ablett, Dangerfield and Selwood)," Scott said.

"If he has 50 touches against us, it won't be because we just let him go.

"I would contend Collingwood didn't let him go either. They just didn't do what they planned well enough."

Geelong confirmed three changes on Monday, with Dangerfield and Rhys Stanley returning and Jack Henry promoted for his AFL debut.

Harry Taylor is out with a foot injury, while Zac Smith and Jordan Murdoch were dropped and Hawthorn were unchanged.
