Ken Hinkley calls Darcy Byrne-Jones' AFL debut eight of the best first games a coach could hope to see.

On Monday the Port Adelaide defender was rewarded for his form with the round 10 Rising Star nomination.

The 20-year-old had 23 disposals, took eight marks and kicked a goal on Saturday as the Power beat Melbourne by 45 points.

Port recruited Byrne-Jones with pick 52 in the 2015 national draft.

Byrne-Jones has stayed in the senior side since finally making his debut in round three, after two seasons playing for Port Adelaide in the SANFL.

"Darcy has been really solid ... but you can only reach that sort of form when you've been consistent for weeks," Hinkley said.

"I've said before that Darce had a really strong pre-season.

"He's had eight really good games and deserves to be recognised for last week's performance.

"He just does the team thing every week and from that perspective he's been really good for us."
