Lions fail challenging Andrews' AFL ban

Brisbane have failed to overturn key defender Harris Andrews' one-game ban for striking at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

Harris was offered the suspension after being cited for striking North Melbourne forward Nick Larkey in Saturday night's fixture.

Harris didn't risk a longer suspension if found guilty by the tribunal but was bidding to be cleared to face Hawthorn in Saturday's finals-shaping encounter in Launceston.

The influential backman was reported by field umpire Andrew Stephens.

The Tribunal deliberated for just four minutes before upholding the suspension.

There was no broadcast vision of the behind-play incident but it was captured by footage taken from behind the goals.

Andrews was penalised a free kick when he appeared to collect Larkey's throat with a forearm in the first quarter of the Lions' 12-point win at the Gabba.

The AFL's match review officer Michael Christian assessed the charge as intentional conduct with low impact and high contact.

Four other players charged with offences from weekend matches have each accepted a $1000 fine.

Carlton's Jack Silvagni (careless contact with an umpire), Brisbane's Dayne Zorko (misconduct), GWS's Jeremy Finlayson (misconduct) and the Kangaroos' Jy Simpkin (misconduct) accepted the fines offered by the match review officer.
