Bolton to be named Carlton coach: report

Powered by

Hawthorn assistant coach Brendon Bolton is set to be offered the Carlton coaching job, according to media reports.

The Blues board met on Monday afternoon with the club to receive a recommendation for Bolton to take charge of the side next year.

Bolton has reportedly won a close vote ahead of caretaker Carlton coach John Barker to take the reins, according to The Age.

Barker was appointed interim coach after veteran Mick Malthouse was sacked in May.

Bolton coached Hawthorn to five straight wins when he filled in for a Hawthorn mentor Alastair Clarkson when he was forced to take a rest due to illness.

The report comes after Hawthorn indicated they wanted Bolton to remain at the Hawks until their finals campaign ends, potentially after the grand final.

However, they had left open the possibility that he could leave early if he landed the Carlton job.
