AFL re-record team songs at clubs' request

The AFL has announced a change which may not go down so well with die-hard fans.

Some team songs have been re-recorded with higher production quality and lyric changes, with the new songs to play in stadiums this season. After some outrage over the move - particularly in Melbourne which is home to some of the oldest clubs and team songs - the AFL cleared up exactly what had happened.

AFL general manager of clubs Travis Auld said the option was offered to all clubs but a few newer additions to the league did not have their team songs re-recorded.

"The AFL was approached by a number of clubs to provide minor updates to their songs," Auld said in a statement to SEN. 

"In doing so, we offered all the clubs the ability to have a new recording, to offer stronger digital sound quality. A number of the club songs are old recordings of diminishing quality. Minor lyric changes were only made following requests from respective football clubs." 

Richmond are among one of the bigger clubs that requested a lyrics change because the song was recorded incorrectly. 

In February it was reported that the club noticed the wrong lyric "risking head and skin" instead of "risking head and shin".
