Richmond star Reece Conca's 100th game has ended in disaster after he was stretchered off the field with a devastating ankle injury.

Conca's left ankle was trapped under Sydney star Lance Franklin in the first quarter, leaving the Tigers star writhing in agony.

The game was stopped for several minutes following the incident, with both teams stunned.

A popular player within the playing squad, Conca was met by the entire Tigers team as he left the arena, before the star acknowledged the crowd with a fist pump.

Conca's path to 100 career games has been a treacherous one as he has fought several hamstring and foot injuries before becoming a mainstay in the Tigers lineup.

The 25-year-old was drafted sixth overall in the 2010 AFL National Draft.

Star Tigers forward Jack Riewoldt expressed his disappointment at Conca's injury in his half-time interview.

"It just sucks to be honest," Riewoldt said.

Conca's entire family was in attendance at Etihad Stadium to witness his 100th game.

The Tigers star was immediately taken to the nearby Epworth hospital for treatment.
