Patrick Dangerfield set to undergo surgery after syndesmosis injury, sidelined indefinitely
Geelong's stuttering 2021 season has been dealt a fresh blow with Patrick Dangerfield ruled out indefinitely by the club due to a syndesmosis injury.
After serving a three-week ban, Dangerfield made his long-awaited return to the field on Sunday in the Cats' win over North Melbourne, only to be faced with another lengthy stint on the sidelines.
Geelong released a statement on Wednesday night confirming that the 2016 Brownlow Medallist would go under the knife following the injury, with his return date still to be determined.
"Scans revealed a syndesmosis injury, and it was felt the best course of action was for Dangerfield to undergo surgery," the statement read.

"Dangerfield will be out of action indefinitely, with his rehabilitation and recovery from the injury determining his return to play."
The injury comes at an extremely inopportune time for the Cats, who have been unable to get their fully-fit line-up on the park together so far this season.
Star recruit Jeremy Cameron will make his debut for the club in Round Six after being sidelined following the pre-season due to a hamstring injury.
Fellow recruit Shaun Higgins played in the Cats' first three matches before fracturing his thumb against Hawthorn in Round Three. Higgins' return date is also to be determined.
