Can't a footballer and an old mentor catch up for a good old-fashioned brew these days?!

That's the question Essendon's Joe Daniher posed on Fox Footy's On the Mark on Wednesday night, after rumours linked him to the Sydney Swans following his meeting with Sydney chief executive Tom Harley.

The rumour mill went into over-drive when news spread of their rendezvous, but Daniher was quick to clarify the purpose of the catch-up.

"It was a great opportunity for me to ring a mentor of mine and catch up whilst I was in Sydney visiting my surgeon," Daniher said.

"(The meeting) has been blown out of proportion a little bit!"

In the manner of professionalism, Daniher was also keen to give his thanks to the Essendon Football Club, who he said had full knowledge of the meeting.

"I went over to Tom's house while he was babysitting, and had a good catch-up," Daniher said.

"I'm really proud of the way that the footy club supports me to do things like this, and that we can squash (those rumours) and move on."

If there were any loose ends still in play for fans of Daniher and the Bombers, the forward set minds at ease when quizzed on where he'd be in the immediate future, and long-term.

"I think that's everyone's ideal situation — to play just for the one club," Daniher said.

"I've had a history with the Essendon Football Club since I can remember, since I was a little kid and I'm very proud to play for this footy club."

Daniher has played 104 games for Essendon since 2013, but has only seen the field four times in 2019 owing to injury.
