AFL announces no twilight Grand Final for 2018

The AFL has announced that the 2018 Grand Final will remain a day time event, resisting the urge to buck the trend and make it a twilight fixture.

The grand final has been scheduled for 2.30pm AEST in the past and it will remain this way, although AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said that the fixture will be reviewed on a year-to-year basis.

Despite the decision, it is widely thought that eventually the Grand Final will be moved to a later time slot to appease broadcasters, with a possible start to take place later than 4pm.

McLachlan himself had explained that he saw the twilight Grand Final as an alteration that will eventually be made, explaining that AFL fans should be prepared for the breaking of a 122-year tradition.

McLachlan stated that the AFL wanted to ensure that if they are to eventually move the grand final that "every aspect of the move is where we want it to be".
