Collingwood Magpies coach Nathan Buckley has rushed to console a distraught group of supporters after their grand final banner fell to pieces prior to the team taking to the field.

In what was supposed to be a proud start to Collingwood’s first grand final berth in seven years, the team took to the field in rather unceremonious fashion after their banner had already been ripped clean by the elements.

The players congregated around edge of the field looking confused before jogging through the empty sticks and on to the MCG.

Coach Nathan Buckley was quick to his feet as he jogged across to console the banners creators, one of who was in tears.

“So Collingwood, amongst the tears, Nathan Buckley comforting the cheer squad and saying thank you very much,” commentator Bruce McAvaney said.

The club smoothly addressed the blunder as they made light of an unfortunate situation.

However, the rest of twitter was not as forgiving.

The blunder didn’t look to trouble the Pies however as they took an early commanding lead over the Eagles at the MCG.
