AFL expert tips and predictions round 17
Round 17 of the AFL is here and our experts have been hard at work to find you the nine winners this weekend.
There were some unpredictable results in round 16, but Dave Hughes went from the doghouse to the penthouse, after tipping just one the previous week he managed seven last week to shoot up the ladder.
Hughesy’s performance was even more remarkable when you consider the fact Hawthorn and GWS played out a draw, which means his only incorrect tip was favouring Carlton to beat Melbourne.
Last week’s results means it’s incredibly tight at the top of the table, with four tipsters separated by just a single point, while Shane and Craig are both still close enough to mount a late challenge.
Although Shane is three points off the lead, he’s confident of a good showing this week.
“Believe in me, we are back. It’s been a hard year, but we’re back,” he said.
St Kilda pumped Richmond last week, and the feeling is they will be too good for Essendon this week.
“The Saints, they were magnificent last week, they’ll win again,” said Shane.
Most of the panel think Geelong will dispose of Hawthorn, but Shane is the notable exception.
“My heart is saying go with the Hawks, and I’m going to. Luke Hodge 300, they’ll get the job done.”
It’s the battle of the coaches on Saturday, with both Collingwood and Gold Coast expecting to be looking for new mentors in 2018.
“The Suns will beat Collingwood, Nathan Buckley under a lot of pressure,” is the verdict from Shane.
Sydney’s winning run has seen them move into the top eight, and Shane is expecting that to continue this weekend against GWS.
“GWS will lose to the Swans … the most inform side at the moment the Sydney Swans.”
