Pressure mounts on Rodney Eade
We’re up to the shortened round 11 of the AFL comp, and all the experts (with one notable exception) are back in form after a solid effort last week.
Dave Hughes has been sent for counselling following his appalling effort in round 10, when he managed just three from nine. To compound the problems for the comedian, everyone else recorded scores of six or seven, so Hughesy has gone from a four point lead just a fortnight ago to now sitting in equal third.
In fairness to Hughesy, he was the only member of the panel to tip GWS to beat West Coast. At the other end of the scale, he tipped Fremantle who were lapped by Adelaide by 100 points!
Rebecca and Billy have now taken the lead, but with all six tipsters covered by just three points the competition is wide open.
Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade is under pressure following last week’s loss to Melbourne, where the Suns blew a 28-point third quarter lead to lose by 35 points, but Billy thinks they can end their two match losing streak this week.
“I’m going for the Suns to beat the Eagles up there,” he said.
The round opens with Port Adelaide hosting Hawthorn, and despite the Hawks winning three of their last four Billy isn’t convinced.
“Port to win this one,” he said.
The match of the round is at Geelong with the Cats hosting competition leaders Adelaide, with both sides coming off consecutive wins.
“First versus third down there at Simmonds Stadium. The Cats to have a big win there,” is Billy’s considered view.
Most of the panellists expected GWS to be beaten last week, and following their narrow win over West Coast they’ve all jumped back on the Giants’ bandwagon.
“The Giants, well they were good last week and they’ll win again,” Billy said.
Five of the panellists are tipping fifth placed Richmond to beat 13th placed North Melbourne, but Billy is going out on a limb.
“I reckon the Kangaroos can win this one.”
Fremantle was humiliated last week by Adelaide, but all bar Rebecca think they’ll return to the winners circle this week.
“Freo for me to bounce back, a hundred point defeat last week, they’ll win this one,” said Billy.
