The Collingwood Magpies have rallied around teammate Travis Varcoe after returning to Melbourne following a crisis that engulfed the star’s family.

Varcoe rushed to Adelaide after his sister suffered a horror on-field collision during a local game of football over the weekend which saw her fall into a coma.

She was playing for local club Angle Vale an Adelaide Footy League grand final at Thebarton Oval on Sunday when she suffered a serious knock to the head.

Varcoe returned to Melbourne to prepare ahead of Collingwood’s first finals fixture against the Eagles.

After addressing his teammates, he was met with a group embrace as the Magpies rallied around the speedster in a show of support.

Coach Nathan Buckley assured the club would stand with Varcoe and his family in their time of need.

“We’ll support Trav as much as we possibly can,” Buckley told Fox Sports.

“He’s a very private person and he would have rather dealt with this privately. The fact that it’s in the public forum now is no longer in his control.
