If I’m only packing carry-on, I find it difficult to choose between a suitcase, a bag, or a backpack. Suitcases can fit more, but backpacks are easier to carry.

The carry-on is Kathmandu’s lightest carry-on yet. It has been designed with durability, manoeuvrability, and convenience in mind.
The range has also introduced three new designs: a 40L Carry-On Spinner, an 80/90L Check-In Spinner, and an 85L Check-In Case, giving travellers lightweight and high-performance options for both short trips and extended adventures. Lightweight structure: At just 1.6kg, it is one of the lightest carry-ons in its class. It features an exLIGHT Exoskeleton instead of a heavy plastic shell and a soft side construction for strength without the bulk.
Tear-resistant fabric: The main compartment is made of 93 per cent recycled rip stop nylon and 7 per cent UHMWPE (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene) – which, pound for pound is stronger than steel. This fabric is lightweight, highly durable, and often used in parachutes and tents, replacing heavy traditional luggage materials.
Smooth ride: Its robust two-wheel system offers a smooth experience and allows the bag to stand upright on its own.
Travel-friendly storage: It features an internal, quick-access pocket with a dedicated 15-inch laptop sleeve, as well as interior dual mesh pockets to keep clothing, toiletries, and more separated. With top and side handles, it is easy to manoeuvre.

My experience…
Typically, I’m a backpack user when it comes to carry-on luggage. Mostly because I often travel solo and like to keep my hands free when navigating my airport coffee-shopping-texting experience.
What first impressed me was the packing ability. I was only going away for a couple of days, but in typical nature found the need to overpack. In this compact case I managed to squeeze in activewear, a hoodie, shirts, socks, swimmers, toiletries, a makeup bag, two laptops, and chargers. Thanks to the case’s flexible outside shell and lightweight design, you can really fit the extra stuff in that a hard shell case can’t.
Kathmandu really called it the Feather Flight Carry-On because it is just that. Upon heading to the airport and through security, my initial thought was how light the case felt, whether rolling it or carrying it upstairs. It glides with such ease that I almost forgot I was carrying it. It also fit perfectly into the overhead locker, slotting between other bags without issue.
I was caught in a shower on my travels, and was nervous that my clothes wouldn’t survive. But of course, thanks to its durable fabric design, it was completely waterproof – and dried off quickly.
The only issues…
Honestly, the only thing about the carry-on that bothered me was it was a little clunky trying to hoist up pavement curbs. But, I think that’s more of a suitcase issue than anything – hence my backpack adoration.
It doesn’t have spinner wheels for complete 360 mobility, but if that’s essential for you, there’s always the Kathmandu Feather Flight Carry-On Spinner - 40L.
My verdict…
This carry-on is an award winner, and it’s clear to see why. It’s smooth, sturdy and ultra-lightweight, easy to pack with flexible space and added compartments.
It’s easy to see there’s longevity in the Kathmandu Feather Flight range, so whether you’re a long haul adventurer or interstate hopper, there’s certainly a reliable option for everyone.
