9PR: Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo/9Product Reviews

After teasing it earlier this year, Nintendo has finally lifted the lid on the successor to its best-selling Switch console – and you can now get your hands on it.

The fittingly named Nintendo Switch 2 is bigger and more powerful than the original, with a larger screen and better graphical performance.

It has all the features that made the original a hit, such as the ability to play on the go or connected to your TV (supporting 4K resolution this time), as well as detachable controllers that now connect magnetically.

But it wouldn't be a new Nintendo console without some kind of quirky twist, and this time, it's the ability to turn the controllers on their side and use them like a computer mouse in some games.

There's also a dedicated button for chatting with your friends online (a separate camera can be purchased for video calls), and in good news for families, a neat feature lets you play select titles with other people using just one copy of a game.

Of course, the Switch 2 would be no fun without anything to play, but thankfully, there are plenty of games on the way.

Mario Kart World has launched alongside the Switch 2 and looks to make the family-friendly racing series bigger than ever before, adding more racers and an open world to explore.

Coming in July, Donkey Kong Bananza will see the famous ape smashing his way through his first 3D game in decades – quite literally, as you'll be able to demolish the levels around you.

There are new Kirby and Zelda titles coming, and other blockbusters like Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be coming to Switch 2 as well.

Plus, a new James Bond game and an exclusive RPG from the makers of Elden Ring are already in the works.

In addition, the Switch 2 can play nearly every game from the original Switch's incredible library – both physical and digital.

Select games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the upcoming Metroid Prime 4 will get Switch 2 upgrade packs that add more content and improved visuals on the new console, but those packs will require a separate purchase.

But the all-important question is, how much does the Nintendo Switch 2 cost?

The console retails for $699 on its own, with a bundle that includes Mario Kart World also available at launch for $769.

By comparison, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X both cost $799.

The console, Mario Kart bundle and launch games are now available.
