This $35 cable organiser saved my WFH desk set up 9PR
I recently moved and have used it as a great opportunity to completely overhaul my work-from-home set-up.
My husband and I spent two Saturdays in a row buying things at IKEA, then returning things at IKEA, and while it was admittedly a nightmare, I'm now a proud owner of a slick and functional space to be my most productive self.
Well, I nearly was.
In the second bedroom we use as our office, I have the most non-sensical powerpoint placement. As you can imagine, that results in excessive levels of cables and powerboards – ones that would sit clustered on the ground in an angry pile of confusion.
Their persistent attitude was really getting in the way of my office aesthetics. So in the spirit of this new space, and this new productive self, I wanted to find the best cable management the internet had to offer. To finally give a home to that worried mess of cables. And so, here's why I chose the...
Cinati Under Desk Cable Management Tray
9PR: CABLE MANAGEMENT 9PR
New to the world of desk organisation, I wasn't sure that I was looking for in a cable management system. But I eventually settled on the Cinati Under Desk Cable Management Tray on Amazon for five reasons:
- It looked neat and white so it would blend seamlessly into the desk. I'm not ashamed to say that this was my number one requirement.
- You didn't have to drill it into anything. Huge must considering I just bought the desk and really didn't want to damage it.
- The set-up was shockingly easy. And the bonus baby wrench made me feel like a baby tradie.
- It had great reviews. 4.6 stars out of over 600 reviews on Amazon, to be exact.
- It would get to my house within three days. I am impatient. That's all.
When the tray arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by its quality and sturdiness.
Also the added extras! One thing I didn't even consider when looking for a cable management system was that most of them have velcro cable ties to loop everything together. This ended up being a game-changer for the long and unwieldy cables that didn't want to stay in the tray: I've just looped them and tucked them in the little spot before the powerboard.
If yours doesn't come with, you can buy the velcro cable ties on their own here. Highly recommend!
Cons of the Cinati Under Desk Cable Management Tray
No product is perfect (except for this one), so I'd be remiss not to share the cons.
- You have to build it yourself with a baby wrench and a set of instructions. Not ideal if you're time poor.
- It's not quite level. Something a few reviewers pointed out is that the tray sags a little towards you. And I mean a little, you can barely notice, but I assume it has something to with getting your paws in and out of the powerboard. If you're a stickler for those kinds of things, this is something to keep in mind.
- It only comes in one size. At 34 centimetres long, it's designed to fit most powerboards but if you need more space, I'd suggest taking a look at some of our other suggestions below.
Other cable management systems
I rounded up some other four-star and above recommended cable management systems for your desk. Now that I'm a complete convert, I think you should be too.
