Buying new clothes can feel like a complete waste of money. Far too often, we check a price tag and sigh at the sheer expense of buying something new.
Given that purse strings feel tight right now, we’re glad that second-hand clothing and thrifting are having a renaissance. Not in a buy-someone’s-sweaty-old-shirt kind of way, but in a way that’s getting your hands on the best brands in a cheap, eco-conscious way.
And the best way to do it? It is on resale platforms. It’s quick, easy, and minimal fuss. While you might have used eBay or heard of Depop, there’s another major player in the clothing resale space that has finally hit Australian shores all the way from Europe – Vinted.

As a Brit, I can personally attest to how exciting it is that Vinted is here for Aussies to use. I think it’s the best re-seller platform for anyone and everyone, and I’ll tell you why.
What is Vinted?
is a popular online marketplace and app used to buy, sell, and swap second-hand clothing, shoes, accessories, and even home goods and entertainment. So, whether you’re in the market for a dress to wear for a wedding but don’t want to pay full price for a gown, or you need to sell a pair of new sneakers that don’t quite fit, is the place where you can do it.
According to the reseller, 88 per cent of Australians have items at home they could sell, and nearly one-in-eight believe those items are worth over $1000. Time to check, no?
How does Vinted work?
It might sound like a bit of a mission, but the platform actually does all the legwork for you. To sell an item (for free!), all you have to do is photograph and upload the item through the app (being sure to get a few options in there), set your price, write a description – i.e., whether it’s new with tags or a genuine designer brand, etc – and communicate with potential buyers on the app.
When an item you’re selling is purchased, you have to download a prepaid shipping label or digital QR code provided in the app and take it to your nearest Australia Post within five days. Once the buyer has confirmed delivery, you will receive your full listing price with zero seller fees. Shipping rates depend on the parcel’s size, and the costs will be provided at checkout.
Plus, if there are any shipping issues, delays, damages, or other issues outside your control, buyers are covered by Vinted’s Buyer Protection program, so refunds are handled with ease.

Is Vinted free to use?
Yes, it is free to download and selling items via the app is completely free, with no hidden costs. Instead, a small mandatory fee, a ‘Buyer Protection fee’ of 5 per cent of the item price plus $0.70, is added at checkout to cover order safety. Postage costs are covered by the buyer, too.
is cheaper to use than apps like Depop, which charge payment processing fees on sales. In other words, allows sellers to keep 100 per cent of their earnings, whereas Depop takes a cut of the final transaction price. Sneaky.
What about international shipping?
The cool thing about resale platforms like Vinted is that you can buy second-hand goods from your neighbours and from people across the world. If something is trending in Europe but isn’t available in Australia, this is an avenue to find it.
Vinted has set up a direct line between the UK and Australia to buy and sell items. In typical fuss-free fashion, the app also handles all the customs paperwork for shoppers, making for a truly seamless experience. The only caveat is that items must weigh under 2kg; if you’re buying from the UK, the item value needs to be under £110 (roughly $209), and if you’re selling to the UK, items must be valued under $290.
We’re yet to learn more about shipping between other countries, but we have a suspicion we’ll hear more about it in due course.
