If you haven't already heard of the Ninja Creami, I'd be very surprised. The original version of the ice cream maker has been around since 2021, but (as with most viral things), thanks to TikTok, it continues to fly off the shelves.

At first, I was influenced to buy the buzzy kitchen gadget. But after a while of deliberation, I eventually forgot about it. Until now, that is.

If you're a sweet-treat enthusiast like me, a Ninja Creami Deluxe will be a welcome home appliance. If you're on the fence about getting one, let me tell you why it could be worth your while.

This viral ice cream maker has 11 functions to make an array of frozen sweet-treats, including ice cream, frozen yoghurt, sorbet, gelato, frozen drinks and slushies. It comes with three family-sized 700ml containers.

What I liked

Quality: At first, I was sceptical whether the result would really be that good, but it was really tasty. I opted for the frozen yoghurt option, using thick, vanilla Greek yoghurt. It was silky smooth and perfectly frozen without being icy.

Size: The tubs are now in a pint size (700ml), compared to 470ml in the previous model. This means you can have enough to feed a few people, or still just make enough for one serving.

Customisation: I'm impressed by the sheer variety of treats that can be made with this appliance. It can be indulgent, refreshing, fruity, chocolate-y, alcoholic, non-alcoholic – you name it.

The "mix-in" function then lets you blend in toppings like fruit, cookies or chocolate, or lollies into the mix. You can also use dairy-free, or 'healthy' alternatives, too. And while it comes with a recipe book, there's ample recipe inspiration on social media so you can experiment.

Dual processing: With the top and bottom blend features, you can have two flavours at once. Handy when you're craving different things, or are sharing your treat with others!

Easy to set up: Sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the extent of Ninja's instructions. I found it relatively easy to assemble, and from there, it's easy to get going. It's also easy to clean as the containers, lids, and blade are all dishwasher safe. It slots perfectly against the kitchen wall, and doesn't take up too much counter space (an essential in a small kitchen).

The downsides...

It's very noisy: If a blender were on steroids, this is the kind of noise the Ninja Creami Deluxe makes. This might sound dramatic, but it's quite accurate. However, the appliance only runs for a matter of minutes once the blending starts, so it's not the end of the world in my opinion.

You have to use the right ingredients: Getting the right consistency is hard; I tried twice before it finally worked. For a creamy texture, it's a struggle trying to use low-fat products, so ensure you use something that isn't fat-free.

24-hour prep time: In a world where instant gratification is a major selling point, the Ninja Creami Deluxe struggles. You have to freeze your ingredients in the container for 24 hours before using, which can take away the fun if you're in the mood for a frozen marg or a spoonful of chocolate ice cream there and then.

The final verdict

The Ninja Creami Deluxe is a fun summertime gadget for a person or a household that loves a refreshing treat.

Despite needing to be ahead of the game with planning, it's a cool way of making treats for you or when hosting friends and family.

And because of its versatility and ability to make up to 11 different products, you can have fun experimenting with new things, all from the ease of one machine.
