Meet the kitchen appliance that is surprisingly good for vegetarian's

Meet the kitchen appliance that is surprisingly good for vegetarian's. Lisa Panetta

As a vegetarian for almost six years, when it comes to cooking, I like to keep things pretty simple... and by simple, I mean using my trusty oven.

I often find myself bypassing any buzzy new appliances or kitchen tools, because more often than not, they just don't really feel targeted to me.

Sure, I know an air fryer can cook veggies, but most of the time, the raving reviews I hear from family and friends are about how quickly and effectively it can cook meat.

So when the opportunity came up to put the new Kleva Spin Crisp air fryer to the test, I felt like the least qualified for the job, which made it the perfect challenge.

And because of the person I am, I like to throw myself straight into the deep end and decide the perfect opportunity to try it out would be hosting some family for friday night dinner.

My partner was on the meat, and I was on the vegetarian sides, and after some thorough research, I came up with four completely different dishes that I planned on cooking with the Kleva Spin Crisp: crispy roast potatoes, cheesy-crusted broccoli, honey carrots, and corn ribs.

Here's how it went.

The set-up

The first thing I noticed was how quick and easy the setup was; there were no finicky bits or pieces that needed to be put together. It was a simple plug-in and go.

As a complete air fryer beginner, I loved how easy this process was, because I didn't have to spend hours trying to navigate putting it together.

In the box, there were a few additional pieces which could be used to make your cooking experience easier, such as a grilling rack, tongs, and an oil collector; however, for what I was cooking, I didn't need to use these parts.

What I loved about the appliance

I loved that the Kleva Spin Crisp had a completely transparent window, as it meant I could sneak a peek at my dish’s progress without having to open the lid and risk losing heat. The rotating feature, which is what truly sets the Kleva apart, also allowed me to get a full 360-degree view of how everything was tracking along.

I did open the lid to snap a few quick pics, but this was for content purposes only (pictured below), as the window provided more than enough space to view the food.

I also loved the detachable handle, which very quickly became one of my favourite elements, as when it came time to plate up, I could easily clip on the handle and transfer straight from the main cooking pot to my serving platters.

There was a perfectly positioned divet, which meant you could simply slot the handle in and avoid having to touch the hot cooking pot.

The large stainless steel cooking pot was also super easy to remove and clean, which I know can often be a pain point with a traditional air fryer basket.

The very top of the appliance had a helpful cooking guide, providing time and temperature suggestions for a range of popular dishes such as potatoes, meats, etc. This was great for me because without this, I would have had no idea where to begin with my meals.

What I didn't love

The cooking guide was equally one of my favourite and least favourite features, because while it did provide suggestions for optimal cooking times, it didn’t specify which of the Kleva’s six features to use for each, which meant when it came to cooking my potato dish, it took much longer than anticipated.

The included instruction booklet also didn't include a heap of information on what each feature was best for... I was using the 'air bake' feature, as this felt most appropriate for the type of cooking I was doing, but after popping my potatoes in for the recommended 30 mins at 210 degrees, I had to almost double my cooking time, and up the temp to 250 degrees.

The verdict

Cooking for others is always a little nerve-racking, especially when using a new tool, but I can safely say my guests loved all the sides, and everything was cooked to perfection in the end.

The finished result! My dinner guests were very pleased.  Lisa Panetta

However, the cooking guide definitely threw me, as most of my dishes took way longer than anticipated to cook, which could be a problem if you were working to a time limit.

All in all, this is a great appliance, and if you’re someone who air-fries, bakes, broils, grills, roasts, and dehydrates, this six-in-one is sure to save you time (and kitchen counter space) every time you cook.
