The blow-dry brushes that'll give you salon-worthy hair

I became aware of blow-dry brushes in 2020, after a friend explained to me that she'd grabbed the Revlon One-Step on sale and now had it as a non-negotiable part of her styling routine.

I was sceptical because my hair was notoriously hard to manage. Blow-drying might have smoothed my hair, but it didn't make it any less wide. I hedged my bets with an Amazon find called the One Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser, which I still have to this day.

Nowadays, blow-drying using a brush is a non-negotiable part of my styling routine. I love that these tools can give you a bouncy, healthy-looking blowout in such a short amount of time. I reviewed the Mermade Hair Interchangeable Blow Dry Brush earlier this year, which remains my favourite of the bunch. However, there are other great, affordable options out there. The Mermade Hair Interchangeable Blow Dry Brush is my personal favourite. Since trialling it for review, I have only come to love it more in the months since. It has a lightweight, ergonomic design, and the large barrel head has soft bristles that make blow-drying a breeze. It also comes with a dryer head and a smaller barrel brush, with stiffer bristles to help you build up curls and bounce. While $159 isn't exactly cheap, you can grab it on sale on Myer for $135.

Mermade Hair Blowdry Brush

If you like the sound of the Mermade Interchangeable Brush but don't need the extra two attachments, the original version will do the trick. Costing less, and doing the same job with a little less versatility, this one also comes highly recommended.

Shark Beauty is growing in popularity in the hair space, having released the Shark FlexStyle and the Shark SpeedStyle, two very efficient hair stylers. Their blow-dry brush, the Shark SmoothStyle, has a wet and dry hair option, so you can blow-dry your freshly washed hair, and then refresh it the next day for an identical result.

ghd Duet Blow Dry 2-in-1 Hair Dryer Brush

This innovative styling brush from ghd uses Heat-Air Xchange Technology to convert energy from airflow, actively heating the barrel plate and plastic bristles. It dries as you brush but also creates shape in the hair. Only heating to 120°C, it leaves the hair dry and shiny.

One of the first hot blow-dry brushes to hit the market, people were buying the Revlon One-Step long before Mermade and BondiBoost were releasing their brushes. With three speed settings, a tip that'll remain cool if you want to twist the brush, and bristles that are designed to detangle, this is an excellent option that's a little more affordable than some of the others.
