9PR: Why the Bose QuietComfort SC is worth your every penny

9Product Reviews/Bose

In today's world, a pair of headphones can truly make or break your day. Whether you are dealing with a crying baby on a flight, a low battery on your Monday morning commute, or a microphone that picks up nothing but wind during your outdoor walk, you deserve better.

That said, headphones are an expensive purchase, so it is important to choose wisely.

Here are a few key factors I consider when looking for the perfect pair of headphones:

  • Noise cancellation
  • Battery life – I'm chronically forgetful and often don't realise I've forgotten to charge them (or turn them off)
  • Charging speed – this is pretty self-explanatory, given my previous point.
  • Comfort, comfort, comfort!
  • Microphone quality – essential as I tend to call or receive calls from loved ones while I'm outside or on walks
  • Adjustable noise cancellation settings – I wear my headphones everywhere, so flexibility is key

Noise cancellation: The Bose QuietComfort SC Headphones features incredible noise cancellation, through the use of both active and passive noise-blocking technologies.

Battery life and charging speed: These headphones boast up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, using USB-C. A 15-minute charge will give you an extra 4 hours of playtime.

Comfort: The QuietComfort SC are designed for long-lasting comfort. They feature a protein leather for a soft feel, durability and enhanced sound quality. The earcups can rotate effortlessly, ensuring a secure, comfortable fit.

Microphone quality: These Bose headphones feature an adaptive microphone system for clear calls. The microphone adjusts to your surroundings and filters out background noise and wind.

Adjustable noise cancellation settings: These headphones also feature various custom modes, which allow you to adjust your noise cancellation depending on your environment.

A particularly great feature of the QuietComfort SC is Wind Block, which lets you tune out of windy environments. Other modes include Aware Mode, which gives you transparency to hear your surroundings, while still providing a great listening experience. Or go incognito mode with Quiet Mode, which lets you block out all noise, except what you want to listen to.

Additional features: The Bose QuietComfort SC also features an adjustable equaliser, which gives you the ability to adjust the bass, treble or midrange, depending on your personal preference. You can also choose to not make adjustments, and the headphones will be adjusted automatically for the best possible sound.

Bose has its own app, which gives you the ability to control your devices, in terms of volume, connectivity, listening modes, equaliser controls, and see charge percentage to optimise your listening experience.

The QuietComfort SC also allows you to connect to two devices simultaneously, so you can share the music or switch between devices at any moment, which is great for travelling or walking with fellow Bose headphones fans.

When purchasing the box, you will receive the Bose QuietComfort headphones, a soft carrying case, a 3.5mm to 2.5mm audio cable, and a USB-C charging cable.

Difference to other models

The Bose QuietComfort Headphones are the next generation of the QuietComfort 45 model. They deliver superior sound quality and top-of-the-line noise cancellation.

The QuietComfort Ultra Headphones are Bose's most premium option, featuring the latest technology for the best possible listening experience. With these headphones, you get the best noise cancellation, personalised sound through CustomTune, enhanced voice clarity, and a range of premium features.

The QuietComfort SC Headphones are essentially the same as the QuietComfort model but come with a soft carry case rather than a hard one, and are only available in black.

How does it fit my 'perfect pair' criteria?

Bose headphones are the king of noise cancellation. Having tried the Sony WH-1000XM4, as well as the Apple AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, none come close to matching these.

Bose wasn't kidding when they said a 15-minute charge gives you up to 4 hours of playtime on these. As someone who constantly struggles with their AirPods (which take forever to charge), the QuietComfort SC headphones are a game changer.

Another feature I love is that these headphones can still work without a charge. I can't count how many times I've left the house without checking my battery, only to realise I won't be able to use them. The noise cancellation and active equaliser won't work, but it's better than nothing.

And the comfort? Unmatched. These headphones come with plush earcup cushions that gently hug your ears, making them perfect for long listening sessions. I have worn these headphones on multiple 14-hour flights and even managed to sleep comfortably with them on (pro tip: they fit perfectly inside a travel pillow). Unlike other over-head headphones that give me headaches, I can wear these for hours without discomfort.

Microphone and adaptive settings: The different modes that can be adjusted to your environment are incredibly helpful. Whether I'm in traffic, out for a run, or on a plane, being able to either hear or completely block out my surroundings based on my preferences makes a big difference.

The Wind Block feature has been a lifesaver as well. As someone who loves calling my friends and family while walking, at the beach, or running errands, it significantly improves how well I can hear them—and how clearly they can hear me. Combine that with top-tier microphone technology, and Bose has definitely made me a happy girl.

Are they worth it?

One reviewer said: "I'm a snob when it comes to earphones and these are hands down the best. Noise cancelling is a top priority for me – I've tried a few less expensive alternatives but they just don't cut it. Comfortable, charge lasts and the best quality sounds. Pricey but worth it". And honestly, I couldn't agree more.

I've worn my Bose QuietComfort SC every day for two years – on my commute, at the gym, during walks and runs, and on the plane – and I could not be happier with my decision.

Elite sound, incredible noise cancellation, long-lasting comfort and battery life, a quick charge and a great microphone, these headphones tick all the boxes. I've got a pair, my boyfriend has a pair and my brother just got his after trying mine last summer.

If I could rebuy one product, it would have to be these headphones.
