Young hero’s ultimate sacrifice for stranger with MS

After seeing a distressing video of a woman with Multiple Sclerosis calling for help, one man in the US has set out to raise funds so that the single mother-of-one doesn’t have to go into a nursing home.

In a heartbreaking video on Facebook, Pennsylvania mum Nichole Snyder opened up about her MS, which she said is getting worse.

Despite support from her family and friends, Snyder admitted even their dedication is not enough as her case becomes increasingly debilitating and “expensive” and would eventually result in her being moved away from her son.

“It’s hard for people to understand the mental side of this. I have to thank everyone who has supported me, especially my mum, she’s done so much. But I can’t do this anymore. My body is done,” the single mum said in the video.

“It’s progressed so bad, my hands are always shaking, the spasms are horrible and I'm always in pain. I can’t imagine leaving my son.”

“Send your thoughts and prayers, donate if you can and if you can’t just spread the word,” she pleaded.

And one stranger has come to her rescue.

After seeing the heart wrenching footage, 29-year-old New Jersey resident Brian Sebok decided he was going to do whatever it took to help the young mum raise funds to pay for the equipment she needs to remain at home.

But what came next was like nothing anyone could have imagined.

The young construction worker set out to walk 300 miles (480 kilometres) across the country to create awareness for Snyder’s situation.

Sebok set up a GoFundMe page to raise US $5,000 ($6,700 AUD) to build a wheelchair ramp and other mobility upgrades at Snyder's house.

With nothing more than a backpack and a bright pink sign detailing the purpose of his adventure, Sebok stepped off the porch of his Netcong home and has been walking ever since.

"She was really upset," Sebok told news publication InsideEdition.com.

"I thought, 'I could be a nice guy here. I could walk 300 miles and help raise this money."

Sleeping out in the open, under bridges, trees and buildings only to wake up and walk miles in sweltering heat, Seebok’s journey has been no easy task. One night, the young hero was ravaged by mosquito bites while sleeping under a tree.

However, his sacrifices have been fruitful and, on July 4, the GoFundMe page hit its target. Yet, Sebok continues to put one foot in front of the other until he reaches his 300-mile target, encouraging even more donations.

In a Facebook video expressing her gratitude, Snyder said she couldn’t be more thankful.

“Anybody who knows - to be disabled is very expensive. I just want to say thank you to you guys, because without you I would not be able to be staying home with my son and I would be going to a nursing home.

“Everybody loves him, he’s amazing. He went out of his way to help me and he didn’t have to.”

Just when we thought he couldn’t get anymore inspiring, the happy and humble hero replied, “Nah it’s nothing.”
