Woman's family 'keeps' commenting on her weight: 'It doesn't help'
I'm the first to admit that I put on a lot of weight during the pandemic. I found lockdown extremely stressful and I ate a lot of comfort food – especially chocolate.
I also indulged in a lot of wine, which is very sugary of course and contributed to my weight gain.
On top of all that, I became addicted to a variety of lollies and chips. Worst of all, I gave up exercising apart from the occasional walk with the dog.

In other words, I became incredibly unhealthy and now I'm having to cope with all kinds of comments from my family about how fat I am.
I get it – I know I am fat! I'm trying to reduce the amount of wine, chocolate and junk food I'm eating. But it doesn't help when my sons and husband constantly remind me that I have packed on the weight.
I was snacking on some nuts the other day when my eldest boy told me that there is 'a lot of fat' in nuts and I shouldn't have 'more than a handful'.
My husband remarked that he'd love to take me on a cruise sometime soon, once I've lost weight and can fit in my swimmers again.

Then my youngest son told me he was too embarrassed to let me pick him up from school because I look so fat. My family is not backwards in coming forward!
Luckily I am thick-skinned otherwise their comments would really hurt me.
So instead of getting angry at them for pointing out the obvious – that I am now overweight and unhealthy, I am doing something about it.
I've joined my local gym and I've made an appointment with a nutritionist who specialises in weight loss. I've told my family that it won't happen overnight, but it will happen!
For the last few weeks, while I've been serving the family lasagne and other delicious fattening dinners, I've been eating steamed green veggies and poached chicken. My kids comment that my dinner looks "boring" but that's when I point out to them that their mum is trying to get her figure back!
I realise that some people have a lot of trouble losing weight, and I'm not finding it terribly easy. But the thought of my son being embarrassed about me is just heartbreaking.

I know my kids and husband love me no matter what, but I'm pretty ashamed of myself that I've let my health go.
As my husband tells me, it's not so much about how I look, because he will always find me attractive, it's the worry that I am now unhealthy.
So now he's booked a cruise for the whole family, which gives me six months to get my health back on track. I'm a very determined, passionate woman, and once I set my mind to something, I always make it happen!
I know it will take time and a hell of a lot of willpower, but I know I can do it – even if just to shut them up about my "wobbly tummy". I know I can conquer this!
