Woman filmed throwing chair off balcony onto busy street now facing charges

A 19-year-old woman charged with throwing a chair off of a balcony in Toronto has surrendered herself to police.

Marcella Zoia, a native of the city, faces three charges in the disturbing incident that was captured on video and posted to social media.

She was seen laughing at the camera and holding a patio chair on the balcony before tossing it over the side. The person recording the incident zooms in and follows the plummeting chair as it passes multiple roads and overpasses, before panning away as it makes contact with the ground.

The video was captioned with “Good Morning.” Police said other items were tossed off the balcony as well.

Zoia had made arrangements to turn herself in on Wednesday morning and is due to appear in court later that day.

Police said on Tuesday that her identity was already known to them, and that they urged her to contact a lawyer and turn herself in.

Zoia is charged with mischief endangering life, mischief damage property under $5,000, and common nuisance.
