Why this woman sends her husband to work with a half-eaten sandwich: 'Role model marriage'

Taking a bite out of someone's sandwich may seem like an insult, but it's how one woman expresses her love for her husband.

In a heartwarming Facebook post, the woman explained why she's taken a single bite out of husband's lunch every day of their 41-year marriage.

She sends him to work with a freshly-chomped sandwich in a Ziplock bag, the bite symbolizing her having "lunch with him" while he's away at work.

"On occasion I would join him on the job site and have lunch with him. He made the comment once that lunch tasted better when you share it with someone you love," she wrote in the post.

It was then she came up with the idea.

"While fixing his sandwich one night, I took a bite out of it before putting it away," she explained.

"When he got home (long before cell phones) he commented that someone took a bite out of his sandwich. I told him that since I couldn't join him for lunch, I took a bite so he knew I was joining him."

To this day, the woman still takes a bite out of her husband's sandwiches, and he tells her, "You joined me for lunch today and it sure was good."

However, she never takes a bite out of his tuna or pimento cheese sandwiches.

The woman's Facebook post included a photo of her husband's most recent lunch - a soft brioche bun with slices of deli ham and a small bite in the corner.

The post received more than 14,000 likes, with commenters admiring the simple but meaningful gesture.

"That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard," wrote one.

"This is what love looks like," commented another.

One mother said she did the exact same thing for her children's lunches from time to time.

Many commenters declared the couple's relationship a "role model marriage".
