Woman's 'mortifying' realisation about what she looks like

Emily Lefroy

Some days are harder than others, and a woman in the UK seems to be having a difficult one after facing a harsh reality that selfies are not a true representation of what people look like.

Ruby Blackman, from Brighton, posted a video to TikTok of herself coming to the realisation that when you take a picture using the front-facing camera on a phone, it operates like a mirror and reverses the image.

In the video, which was posted to Twitter, she said: "I just realised something mortifying."

She dramatically continued, "That every single person who sees me every day sees this."

Blackman then flipped the camera around around, showing how she appears to others in 'real life'.

"Just plain rude that nobody told me, just why wouldn't you tell me this is what you have to see," she said.

"I would just not leave the house!"

Twitter users were equally as horrified to learn they look different from what they thought.

One person said, "I discovered this like a few years ago, my life hasn't been the same since."

Another decided to twist it to their own advantage.

"So if you already look bad when you see yourself in the mirror or camera.. then when people actually see you... you look good," they wrote.

While another user noted that everyone is their own harshest critic.

"I also feel this but notice how when she flips it she doesn't look any different to us. We only notice on ourselves" they said.
