Woman escaped from freezer two days after being drugged at party

A man has been charged with kidnapping and attempted murder after a woman woke up in a freezer in his home after allegedly being drugged at a party two days earlier.

The woman, who has not been named, said she woke in a freezer in the Ohio home of Eric Glaze, 41, on Tuesday with no recollection of how she got there.

The last thing the woman recalls was attending a party at Glaze's home on Sunday night, naming him as only an acquaintance, and believes she was drugged before being stuffed in the freezer.

She had not been restrained and was able to escape by pushing the door open and running to her car, which was still parked outside the property, and driving away.

The woman then crashed and was discovered by police shortly after 10am, who detained and subsequently arrested Glaze that afternoon.

"She came [to Glaze's home] of her own volition and essentially, she was administered some sort of narcotic, according to her," East Cleveland Police Captain Scott Gardner told reporters.

"She's not exactly certain of the events that happened in between but she woke up and she was in a freezer that was running."

It is not clear how long the woman was in the freezer before her escape, however she had developed frostbite and was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

No further details have been released about Glaze, and though the woman does not believe she was sexually assaulted, a rape kit is being done in case she does not remember it.

"She seems to think that... that they had drugged her to the capacity that [they believed] she was dead, is what she was indicating to us, and they were essentially trying to get rid of her," Gardner said.

However Gardner stressed that police are still working to piece everything together about that night and the woman's subsequent escape.

It is believed the home may be operating as a group home for people with mental challenges according to police, however city records don't indicate that it is registered.

"Whether it's a group home, no group home, whatever it may be... We should have known," neighbour Pat Phoeson told FOX 8.
