'A blessing in disguise': Woman discovers husband's infidelity three months after wedding

As told to 9Honey

It was the night before my wedding, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread that had been building inside of me for weeks. I was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering how I had gotten to this point. I was about to marry the man of my dreams, or so I thought.

But as the hours ticked by, my doubts and fears grew stronger, until I finally realised the truth: I didn't want to marry my fiancé, Angus.

I didn't know what to do. I'd already spent months planning this wedding, and I didn't want to disappoint my family and friends, many of whom had travelled from overseas to be there.

So, I pushed my doubts aside and went through with the wedding.

The ceremony was beautiful, and I smiled and nodded as I exchanged vows with Angus, who was looking adoringly at me. I should feel like I'm lucky, but deep down, I knew I'd made a huge mistake. I was marrying a man that I didn't love, and who didn't really love me.

But then something happened that, I believe, was almost a blessing in disguise. Three months after the wedding, I discovered that Angus had been having an affair. At first, I was devastated, and felt like a complete fool.

Looking back, I realise that there were signs all along, but I was too caught up in the excitement of the wedding to see them. My husband had been distant and preoccupied for weeks leading up to the wedding, but I thought it was just due to the stress of planning. In retrospect, I realise that he was probably spending time with his mistress.

I also regret that I did not listen to my instincts, and trusted my gut feeling. I ended my marriage as soon as I found out about Angus' affair. He was remorseful but agreed we needed to break up.

The good news is that I have found love again! Following the divorce, I moved on with my life. I took the time to heal, and to figure out what I truly wanted in a partner. I told myself that it is okay to make mistakes, and that it's never too late to start over.

I met a new man, Jeremy, through friends and we just clicked right away. He is kind, loving and respectful. He was patient with me as I navigated my way through the healing process, and he never pressured me to move too quickly.

With him, I felt safe and loved, and I knew that he was the right person for me. Our relationship grew slowly but surely, and I knew that I could trust him with my heart. He was someone who made me feel happy and whole again, and I am so grateful to have him in my life.

I've learned that finding the right person takes time and patience, but it's worth it in the end.
