Mother says ambulance denied daughter medical attention, led to her death

A US woman has spoken out about the actions of prejudice ambulance drivers which led to her daughter's death earlier this month.

Florida grandmother Nicole Black claimed Hillsborough County medics denied her daughter, Crystle Galloway, an ambulance to hospital because they assumed the young mother of three couldn’t afford the ride.

The 30-year-old was suffering a stroke after having given birth via a caesarean five days before – and died days later.

In an interview with WPBF-TV, Black revealed she called emergency services after finding her daughter slumped over a bathtub, drooling from the mouth.

However, when the paramedics arrived, they refused to take Galloway in the ambulance as they alleged her family could not afford the ride.

"They didn't take any vitals. They didn’t take any blood pressure. They didn’t check her temperature,” Black said.

"They never asked us if we had insurance, which we do."

According to People, the four paramedics who arrived on scene have been suspended after an investigation revealed they mishandled the situation.

The four medics – who have more than 25 years experience between them – have been accused of not even checking for vital signs and falsifying paperwork.

A disciplinary hearing for the four medics has been tentatively set for July 31.

"I cannot trust these individuals to work under my medical license," Fire Rescue medical director Michael Lozano said in a statement.

"I feel they do not meet the minimum standards set by myself and the department."

After being denied the ambulance ride, Black drove her daughter to a nearby hospital where she was airlifted and taken by helicopter to a larger hospital for treatment.

Galloway went into a coma and never woke up, dying days later.

"My daughter begged for her life; she begged," Black said.

The distraught mother and grandmother has started a GoFundMe to help care for her three young grandchildren.

According to People, the ambulance ride to the hospital would have cost $600.
