Sydney man's shocking discovery after googling ex-wife

An Australian man has discovered the wife he met online has been charged over the murder of a pregnant neighbour and the kidnapping of her baby.

Andrew Murray, a Katoomba chef, told News Corp he hit it off with Brooke Lynn Crews, 38, when they met on dating website Tagged and she moved to Australia to be with him in February 2012.

However, the marriage lasted only a matter of months before things “soured” and she returned to the US in October that same year.

Murray said Crews told him she lost a baby in 2011 and was unable to have children. But the relationship had fallen apart when he discovered Crews had lied to him about her past, including the fact she had children and had been married before. So he told her to "go home and be a mother to your kids".

He also said Crews, who was obsessed with true crime and serial killers, began threatening him and became increasingly aggressive.

“She studied psychology and nursing and did her thesis on serial killers. She was always reading books on serial killers and murders and could tell you anything about them,” he said.

When Crews started telling him police wanted to speak with him, he said he went there and “told them everything”. He also began to delve into past records and discovered she had been lying about her past.

He confronted her and she returned to America. Murray admitted he had been considering going to live in America with Crews but she “seemed to get really nasty”.

He said Crews promised to send divorce papers which never arrived so he went and had the marriage annulled.

However, Murray was still “mortified” when he Googled her name this year and discovered the allegations against Crews.

“I just couldn’t believe it to be honest. I had voiced my concerns about her mental state ... but wasn’t expecting that.

“It sort of shocked me to the bone. It’s been five years and I’d shut a lot of things out, but a lot of stuff has come back now.”

Crews and William Hoehn were charged in August in relation to the death of 22-year-old Savanna Greywind, whose body, which showed “signs of homicidal violence”, was found wrapped in plastic in a Minnesota river.

Both Crews and Hoehn were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping and providing false information to police.
