US Mum’s resolution to lose 204kg for her daughter goes viral
One US mum has gone viral after vowing to lose 204kg in her inspiring workout videos.
Leneathra Reed, 39, of Meridian, Mississippi, began her weight loss journey in November 2018, at a point when she weighed over 284kg.
She admitted that she couldn’t be the kind of mother she wanted to be for her two year old daughter, Kenlyn.
"I couldn't get down on the floor and play with her... even giving her a bath was a challenge," Reed told Good Morning America.
Her weight gain started over 12 years ago after a breast reduction surgery lead to a collapsed lung.
After the harrowing experience she was put on steroid medication for recovery, but the medication combined with an unhealthy lifestyle saw her stack on the pounds over a decade.
Now she’s decided to do something about it.
"I said, 'You want to be here for your daughter? It's time to get up and do something about it.'"
So she began training with Frank Harbin, owner and trainer at Total Body Transformation Gym in Meridian.
Harbin started Reed on a low-carb diet plan, monitoring her meals and keeping her more mindful of the food choices she’s making, as well as kicking off a modified training regime.
“As she started being more mobile and seeing results, her determination got stronger and stronger and now she's doing whatever it takes to live for her daughter," he explained.
Working one-on-one Reed has already managed to lose almost 13kgs with Harbin, and she plans to keep pushing herself in 2019 in hopes of getting down to her goal weight of 80kgs.
But it was Harbin’s encouragement that lead to Reed going viral, as he regularly posts video of her inspiring workouts to his Facebook page.
In the videos he cheers her on, calling encouragement and motivation as Reed performs everything from sit-ups and jumping jacks to training with huge sledgehammers.
One of the most popular videos reached over 52 million views, with almost 97,000 people commenting their support for Reed and her goals.
"It really touches my heart," Reed said of the support.
"It makes me nervous to put myself out there and be vulnerable to criticism but as far as the support, it's really heart warming because that's what I set out to do is inspire others.”
