Newlyweds called out by transit authority for staging wedding photos in bus lane

A newlywed couple and their wedding party have been called out by New York City's transit authority for choosing a rather odd spot to take their wedding photos.

Skipping over iconic locations like Central Park or the Brooklyn bridge, the couple chose an empty bus lane as the backdrop for their wedding snaps.

Yes, that's right; a bus lane.

Footage shared to TikTok shows the happy couple flanked by bridesmaids and groomsmen as they pose for photos in the middle of 5th Avenue in Manhattan.

The group walk slowly down the centre of the street in the clip while a photographer snaps pictures.

It might not have been an issue if the road had been closed or otherwise not in use, but as the camera pans to the left, several vehicles can be seen waiting behind the group.

A city bus and ambulance even inch along behind the wedding party, who seemed oblivious to the fact they were holding up traffic.

The video quickly spread across social media and was widely mocked, commenters calling out the party for blocking the road.

Others saw the photoshoot as a unique way to celebrate a wedding, or as a bit of harmless NYC fun.

But New York City's transit authority wasn't impressed, retweeting the clip to its Twitter page with a hilarious response.

"ARE YOU A BUS?" the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) of New York City tweeted.

"(Congratulations and we wish you all the best, but please stay out of the bus lane)."

Other Twitter users piled onto the tweet, insisting the couple and their wedding party should be fined or otherwise reprimanded for blocking traffic.

However, multiple people claiming to be from the wedding party insisted the video was taken out of context.

One said the ambulance seen behind the group was "congratulating" the newlyweds, while another clarified the party was only blocking the road for "a total of 15 seconds".

The second person added that the street was "an iconic NYC wedding industry photo op" and people nearby were "cheering" for the couple.

Other people who shared the video to criticise the newlyweds have also been called out for "bullying" the pair despite having limited information outside the short TikTok clip.
