As far as Twitter conspiracies go, #WristFreckle is probably one of the strangest we’ve seen.

Women around the world are taking to social media to share pictures of their identical wrist freckles – and are collectively freaking out as to why so many of them share this oh-so special marking.

The whole thing began after Twitter user Aaryn Whitley shared a collage of wrist freckles and asked: “ladies….. [you] got a freckle on the middle of [your] wrist or is this a myth lmao.”

What followed was an internet explosion.

The post prompted thousands of girls sharing their own pictures of the seemingly matching freckles, located on the top centre of their wrists.

Many are asking what it means, and to be honest as much as we hate to burst the conspiracy bubble, it doesn’t mean a lot.

Freckles are formed when from a high deposit of melanin in one spot of the skin. They can be darkened by exposure to the sun, which the wrist would see a lot of – even in long sleeves or jackets, chances are that part of your wrist is exposed.

However, another theory could be that people with wrist freckles are apart of the chosen, branded at birth and destined for great things.

As women who aren’t a part of the #WristFreckle gang, we really hope it’s not the second one.
