Tinder stabbing victim: ‘I still check the cupboards’

A victim of a savage stabbing attack by a man she met on Tinder has spoken out to say she wants to fight for other women’s safety. 

Angela Jay was stabbed repeatedly by Paul Lambert, a man she had been on Tinder dates with before ending their short romance. Lambert, who had sent a message to a friend declaring himself the “luckiest guy in the world”, was angry after being rejected by Jay. He hid in her wardrobe at her home in Port Macquarie and stabbed her before dousing her in petrol as part of a revenge plot. 

Jay managed to escape, and Lambert was eventually shot dead by police after resisting arrest. Police believe his plan was to rape and kill Jay, before burning down the house.

Now, Jay is hoping to help other women who are stuck in violent relationships. During a speech at the White Ribbon charity ball, she described the horror of her attack:

“On the night I was attacked, I could see the knife, and while I couldn’t feel it, my brain started to comprehend that I was being stabbed,” she told the audience.

“I fell to the ground and saw the wound on my left thigh, I could see the fat beneath my skin and it was bleeding heavily around my fingers even when I tried to apply pressure. I would later learn that there was in fact not one, but six stab wounds in that thigh with one extending all the way into my femur.”
