Serena Williams returns to motherhood amid US Open final controversy

Serena Williams has once again proven she's the closest thing we've got to superwoman.

Just two hours after the sports star lost the US Open final to Japan’s Naomi Osaka in a dramatic match, the 36-year-old was back to reality and life as a mum.

Fresh from a press conference where she emotionally addressed allegations she cheated during the match, Williams posted a sweet video of her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr.
The clip shows the one-year-old walking around with her doll Quay Quay in her arms.

'Honey are you giving Quay Quay a kiss now that she fixed her arm," Williams can be heard saying.

The adorable video finishes with the tot walking into the arms of her father, Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian.

Her post to Instagram stories is indicative of the tennis legend's life now she is a mum.

Despite facing one of the biggest controversies of her career to date, Williams, just like mums across the globe do every day, returned to her role of mother with a smile on her face.

During the post-match press conference, a tearful Williams said she will continue to fight for women's rights after claiming she had no regrets about her ugly fight with umpire Carlos Ramos over cheating claims in the US Open women's final.

Williams was adamant that she had not received any coaching advice and she had no regrets as she believed she "stood up for what she believed in and stood up for what was right."

"You definitely can't go back in time but I can't sit here and say I wouldn't say he's a thief because I thought he took a game from me," Williams said.

"I've seen other men call other umpires several things and I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff, and for me to say thief and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark.

"He's never taken a game from a man because they said thief."

It's been a tumultuous few weeks for Williams who also faced controversy surrounding French Tennis Federation's recent ban of the Nike catsuit she wore to compete in the French Open in May.

When asked at a recent press conference what she thought of the recent changes to the dress code, Williams responded with a typically legendary response.

"When it comes to fashion, you don't want to be a repeat offender," Williams deadpanned at the US Open two weeks ago.

The multi-times grand slam winner wore a black bodysuit for the match specifically to assist with her health concerns after giving birth to daughter in 2017.

The suit – which Williams said made her feel like a "superhero" – was designed to help the new mum's circulation and help prevent blood clots.
