Why woman 'almost lost it' when she opened her work Secret Santa gift

Doing Secret Santa with your colleagues is always cause for concern.

And it seems one woman has lived everyone's worst nightmare this year – she's received the colleague secret Santa gift to top all colleague secret Santa gifts.

Now, there's nothing wrong with making tacos at home, but receiving the ingredients as a Secret Santa present isn't particularly ideal. 

Golda shared her dilemma to TikTok, posting an image of the secret Santa gift she unwrapped with the caption, "I almost lost it when I saw the onion," and honestly, that's a fair reaction.

Now, there is a cost of living crisis, yes. Food has gotten very expensive, yes. But does that constitute giving a co-worker groceries in your office secret Santa? No.

It's one of those moments where you go, "I didn't realise this needed to be said", but groceries are maybe not an appropriate secret Santa gift.

The knife was only wedged deeper when Golda compared it the present she had received to the present she had gifted. 

Unwrapping her gift, Golda got groceries. But whoever unwrapped her gift was treated to a delightful (and expensive) Yankee Candle.

While Secret Santa is meant to be all fun and games between workmates, let this be a lesson to all: Secret Santa is stressful.

Firstly, there's the anticipation over who you get.

Is it going to be your work bestie who has been listing off everything they're hoping to see under the tree this year every day as a form of procrastination?

Or will it be that guy from Accounts who you sometimes see lurking the halls but you're actually not 100 per cent sure if he really does work there or just enjoys basking in the atmosphere of the office?

Then comes the scarier thought: who drew your name out?

There's something oddly terrifying about receiving a Secret Santa gift.

It's a similar feeling to when people used to post brutally honest reviews or 'TBHs' ('to be honest' posts) to one another's Facebook timeline.

Something about receiving a Secret Santa gift gives us a bit of insight into the way we are perceived by the world, and more importantly, our colleagues. 

And unfortunately for Golda, the results weren't great.
