The real reason the Queen always wears bright clothing

One of our favourite things about Queen Elizabeth II is waiting to see what stunning, colourful outfit she will appear in next.

Apart from the fact that pops of pastel look right at home on the monarch, there’s a very good reason why she doesn’t step out in muted tones.

While it’s heart-warming to think the Queen simply has a penchant for a bold splash of colour, there’s a much more practical - but no less touching - motive.

In the documentary, The Queen at 90, Sophie, Countess of Wessex revealed exactly why you’ll never spot the matriarch in subdued hues at official proceedings.

Her Majesty’s daughter-in-law explained that she wears bright shades in order to be easily seen by the public at crowded events.

“She needs to stand out for people to be able to say, ‘I saw the Queen’,” Sophie stated.

“Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.”

It all makes sense now, if she were dressed in neutrals she would simply blend in with the crowd.

Throughout her 65 year-long reign, Queen Elizabeth has worn every shade from neon green to hot pink.

All the while she’s just been looking out for her loyal following so they can catch a glimpse of her.

We can’t help but wonder if the Queen would choose less colourful outfits if she wasn’t so considerate of her fans.
