Royal tailor breaks his silence on Meghan and Kate's bridesmaid dress saga

The tailor at the centre of the bridesmaid dress saga at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding has broken his silence on the royal incident.

Ajay Mirpuri, a luxury suit and dressmaker based in London, confirmed he and three members of his staff altered six dresses ahead of the 2018 royal wedding.

However, he stopped short of commenting on any royal row between the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales.

"If anything happened in the background, it didn't happen in front of me," Mirpuri told The Daily Mail UK.

"But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times – and especially one at this high level; you've got to respect that."

He offered that Meghan and Harry were faced with a problem many couples on their wedding day experience – last minute hitches.

"I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren't fitting – it's nerve-wracking," he said.

"I feel for them all, because you wouldn't want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress – and that's what they were."

The alterations were made at Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle after it was discovered none of the six bridesmaids' dresses, including a flower girl dress worn by Princess Charlotte, made by French fashion house Givenchy, fitted.

The British media outlet tracked down Mirpuri for comment after Prince Harry detailed conversations and awkward exchanges between Meghan and Kate ahead of his wedding in his just-released memoir Spare.

According to the book, Meghan was in the middle of fighting with her father, Thomas Markle, when the argument with Kate ensued.

"Charlotte's dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home," Kate's first message read.

"Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8am,'' Meghan replied. "Here, at KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing."

Kate responded: "No, all the dresses need to be remade."

A frustrated Meghan hit back: "I'm not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn't fit then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He's been waiting all day."

Kate simply responded with: "fine", according to the messages in Harry's book.

Harry also claims in his book Kate privately admitted to the couple the British tabloids were wrong in reporting Meghan made her cry over Charlotte's flower girl dress.

"Kate got things rolling straightaway by acknowledging that these stories in the papers about Meg making her cry were totally false," the Duke of Sussex writes.

He said Kate confessed during a "summit" between himself, Meghan, Prince William and Kate.

'I know, Meghan, that I was the one who made you cry,'" Harry claims Kate said.

He wrote about the relief the comment gave he and Meghan.

"Meg appreciated the apology, but wanted to know why the paper had said this, and what was being done to correct them? In other words: Why isn't your office standing up for me?" Harry wrote.

The Princess of Wales has never spoken publicly about the incident.
