The colour of the Queen's coat divides the internet

The Queen has found herself at the centre of an online debate over the colour of her dress after her appearance in UK Parliament on Thursday.

Giving the Queen's Speech to mark the State opening of Parliament following the conservative party's election victory, her majesty wore a teal coloured day dress, coat and hat. However, onlookers were quick to make mountains out of molehills, with many accusing the monarch of subtly choosing political sides.

Some royal watchers took to Twitter to claim that Her Majesty was wearing blue in support of the victorious Conservatives or the Brexit party, while others claimed the dress was green in support of the Green party.

"I reckon the Queen is in Brexit colours today," wrote one Twitter user.

"The Queen looks chuffed she's wearing blue," wrote another.

"Is her majesty wearing #green clobber to signify favouring the Green Party policies," added a third.

This latest attack on her majesty's outfit isn't the first to happen at a State Opening of Parliament, in 2017 the Queen famously wore a blue and yellow ensemble which was quickly slammed online for supporting the EU flag during the beginning of Brexit Talks.

Angela Kelly, who was the Queen's dresser, designer, personal advisor and curator of wardrobe, wrote about the 2017 event in her book The Other Side of The Coin,which shares personal stories of her 25-year-long working relationship with the Queen which was approved by the monarch herself.

"There was almost a meltdown on social media with people speculating that The Queen's outfit and hat paid tribute to the EU flag and that The Queen was making a subtle statement about the recent Brexit vote," Kelly wrote of the blue and yellow outfit.

"It was a coincidence but, boy, did it attract a lot of attention, and it certainly made us smile."

She also wrote about the fact that in 2017, The Queen opted to wear a summer dress rather than her traditional robe or long dress as her diary was so busy with engagements it was easier for everyone involved to for-go the big outfit for a standard day dress.
