The Queen included a nod to Prince Philip in her Christmas address

Christmas Day is a big one for the Queen. After attending mass at St Mary Magdelene Church in Sandringham, the monarch makes her way back to her estate to in time for Christmas lunch with her family and at 3pm, tunes in to see her annual address be broadcast to millions of people worldwide.

This year, Prince Philip stayed home for the church ceremony, so he could celebrate the day 'privately'. And while he may have had to steer clear of the public eye, the Queen found her own sweet way to include her husband in the Christmas tradition.

During the nine-minute long address, Her Majesty wore a cocktail dress by Angela Kelly and a scarab brooch pinned to the chest.

The brooch, otherwise known as the Grima Ruby Brooch, is a yellow gold piece of jewellery impressively embellished with rubies and diamonds. It was a gift given to her by Prince Philip in 1966 and she has worn it on previous festive occasions. 

The Queen is known to be strategic with her choice of brooch, so it's fair to assume that wearing this gift from Prince Philip was intentional.

The pair celebrated their impressive 70-year wedding anniversary last year.
