Photographer who captured last photo of Queen Elizabeth speaks about behind-the-scenes

The photographer who took what was to be the Queen's last official picture has spoken about what she was like at her last royal engagement.

Jane Barlow, a Press Association photographer in Scotland, shared small talk with Her Majesty about the weather before taking the opportunity to snap a few pictures before the Queen officially appointed British Conservative leader Liz Truss to the position of Prime Minister.

"I got a lot of smiles from her," the photographer recalled fondly to The Press Association.

"I was there to photograph her meeting the new Prime Minister but for me the best picture was the one of the Queen on her own. And it has obviously become more significant now.

"I've had so many lovely comments about the picture. It's a real privilege to be able to take that picture, an honour and a privilege. It's like that for a lot of our job."

Barlow commented that the Queen "certainly did look more frail than when I photographed her in the summer," having done more engagements than originally planned in her last few days in the role.

Nonetheless, Barlow says Her Majesty had a big smile on her face as she welcomed the newest Prime Minister to Balmoral Castle, where she would pass "peacefully" two days later.
