The Queen's adorable reaction to sick kids' DIY crowns

Queen Elizabeth II is the head of a monarchy and the commonwealth, but she's also a granny, as proven by her sweet reaction to sick children on a hospital visit.

Her Majesty appeared at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital this week, meeting with some of the youngest patients who greeted her shyly.

Many of the children had donned DIY gold and silver crowns, which they had decorated themselves in the lead up to the monarch's visit, and the Queen appeared delighted by the adorable touch.

"They're very good crowns," she can be heard telling the children in a sweet clip shared to the Royal Family's social media accounts.

The kids made the crowns as part of an art therapy session, one of many creative health play sessions the hospitals offer for children and families.

"These sessions are used to prepare children for treatment, often to help with pre-treatment anxiety, and to teach children about their condition," the royal family tweeted.

The trip was a welcome respite for the Queen, who is understood to have been involved in long and complex discussions about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming royal exit.

Since the Sussexes announced their plans in early January, senior royals have been scrambling to figure out how best to facilitate the couple's official departure.

The Queen herself has been supportive of their decision, releasing a statement last month wishing them a "happy and peaceful life" on their own.

However, she has had to "stick to her guns" when it comes to the terms of Harry and Meghan's royal split.

"The Queen is always going to stick to her guns and make it very clear — if you're turning your back on being a full-time royal then there are conditions under which you can do it," royal expert Dickie Arbiter told The Sun.

"Her Majesty has stuck to her guns."

Buckingham Palace confirmed this week that the duke and duchess will attend a series of royal engagements over the next month, before officially ending their royal duties on 31 March.
