Queen Mary and King Frederik attend celebration of succession to throne hours after unprecedented proclamation
Hours after delighting swarms of fans with a kiss on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace, Queen Mary and King Frederik have made their first official appearance.
The royal couple visited Danish parliament with Crown Prince Christian, Queen Margrethe, Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte marking the changing of the throne.
Queen Margrethe officially abdicated over the weekend in an intimate meeting where she was joined by now-King Frederik and Crown Prince Christian.

In a truly iconic moment, the new king and queen arrived for the Danish Parliament's celebration of the succession of the throne on January 15.
King Frederik and Queen Mary waved to the crowd as Queen Margrethe watched on smiling widely.
Queen Mary of Denmark looked stunning in a blue ensemble.
In keeping with the cold weather, the queen wore a belted jacket and skirt with matching gloves and pointed stilettos.
She completed the look with a brimmed hat with a plumage on one side.
For jewellery, she chose the heirloom pearl-and-sapphire Connaught brooch which was inherited by Queen Ingrid of Denmark.
It has been used by Queen Margrethe, Queen Anne Marie of Greece and now Queen Mary, and forms part of the crown jewels.
The brooch features a large faceted sapphire surrounded by diamonds and pearls suspended from the main element of the brooch.
It can be traced back five generations in the family, back to Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia who married the Duke of Connaught (one of Queen Victoria's sons) in 1879.
Queen Mary carried a bright bouquet of flowers given to her by a royal follower which looked perfect against her navy ensemble.
Queen Mary arrived for the occasion with King Frederik and newly title Crown Prince Christian, 18, their eldest child, who is now next in like to the Danish throne.
The king and queen were greeted by Queen Margrethe and Prince Joachim of Denmark.
Prince Joachim attended events solo, having left his family in Washington in the US, where he works as an attaché to the Danish embassy.
King Frederik embraced his brother Prince Joachim ahead of the parliamentary celebration.
Both royal men wore navy blue suits.
The king and queen looked comfortable in their new roles as heads of the royal family in Denmark.
Denmark has a constitutional monarchy meaning the monarch, as head of state, must sign new laws before they come into force, however the formal power remains with government and the elected parliament.
Queen Mary didn't curtsey to Queen Margrethe for the first time following the former monarch's abdication after 52 years of rule.
Instead of her usual curtsy, Queen Mary reached out to Queen Margrethe and kissed her on the cheek.
